The Big One: Cake Smash

It’s not every day you turn one, but when you do: boy, is it a big deal. The White, Weyant and Adsit family threw a first birthday party to remember, with a classic under the sea theme, using Pinterest and imagination, as their guide.

This shoot was a special one for me, as it all started with the idea to do a cake smash with my friend Jen (the birthday boy’s aunt). For those of you who don’t know, Jen is not only my fellow co-worker by day, but she’s an extremely talented cake decorator (see image below). So, little by little, the pieces fell into place. Jen’s sister, Alisha whipped out her arts and crafts skills. And with the help, love and support of other family members, not only was Colton’s cake smash setup fabulous, but so was his 1st birthday party.

Because of all of the fabulous photos taken to commemorate Colton in all of his cuteness, this post will be split into two: the cake smash and his birthday party.

While everyone was getting together decorations and outfit selections, Colton and I had a little one-on-one time to play in his little orange, plastic pool full of toys.

After some fun in the sun, Colton and I got down to business: balloon business, that is.

Last, but not least: cake time!

And just like that, this little man is one year old. Colton learned an important lesson that day: life is sweet; enjoy it!

Until next time,

xoxo KMF Photography
